Open up your fucking ears, jackass. (Originally posted on Tuesday, September 13, 2005)

A music related blog here...

(just so you know I fucking accidentally erased about fifteen minutes worth of bloging...don't you hate that...it never comes back as good the second time out...at least not for me.)

Anyway...I have had a lot of time lately to listen to a lot of CDs that I had previously written off as being sort of "meh". My new position at work gives me a lot of opportunity for "background" music. So I have given a few CDs a second chance.

The first such CD is "Evoke" by wumpscut. I had this in my car for months and I only listened to it about twice. I had sort of gotten the impression that basically it was just another weak collection of dancefloor friendly singles a-la Wreath of Barbs. Now dont' get me wrong...I'm not one of those "old school" wumpscut fans who constantly bitch about the "old days" when wumpscut was "the shit". I think that its cool for the guy to do such varied shit. I mean if he put out ten years worth of Soylent Green he'd be a Leather Strip and you all know what I mean about that. Maybe Razed in Black is a better example...

Anyway for what it is (and I'm not saying that it is as good as Bunker Gate 7 or Dried Blood of Ghamorah, which are my two favorite discs by Wumpscut) it really isn't so bad. I think I get more of what he was trying to do and I feel that thematically there is more going on from song to song than had been previously evident to me. Overall this CD has it's highs and lows...but there are great sounds and a nice mix overall. Not his classic stuff...but definatly got a few decent cuts in there.

The next is "Wrack and Ruin" by Hocico. I've always been a hoccico fan. I like there sound. But I couldn't tell you one song from the next. They tend to blend together in a distorted haze...honestly the only real differnece between songs is the samples. BUt this album has a little more variety. There are some songs that I always stop to check my winamp to see who the artists is when I have my whole collection playing on random. There is a great flow to the songs and I have been listening to it lots over the weekend.

That's about it for now...I have a couple more...but that accidental delete sort of sapped my will to blog.
