Oztographer posts tells it like it is...

Not to be outdone by my sister in law who has done it again by posting some of the most readable and link clickable political blogs I've read (and I have an RSS feed full of that pinko tripe), I'm going to post up a quick link to an amazing Flicker set that was linked on what is fast becoming one of my favorite daily reads, Animal NY. Basically the artist has photoshpped some World War 2 propaganda posters with the idea being that they are what hte republicans would post if they were being honest. I'm feeling gassy...

Stop trying to click that. You're not really going to win a dinner for Chili's.

I saw this ad on my hotmail this morning and there is something about it that bothers me. It's a little to early to put my finger on why it gets under my skin so bad. I think it's because Palin reminds me of Vicky. Or if not Vicky specifically then your typical stuck up white bitch step mom. My stuck up white bitch step mom used to go through my year books and cackle like a harpie and make remarks like "My god...look at this...there's not a white face on this whole page!"

So yeah...that might have something to do with it. Anyway, I'm soothing my pain by considering buying this extremely expensive bike jeresy:

I think it's the perfect thing for my zero emissions bike commute. Pedal Baby Pedal!

Big ol Cat Returns!!

Of course this will be the picture upon which the stylized "Big Ol Cat Brewing" logo will be based:

And this is the current candidate for the label on Big Ol Cat Brewing's first product, "Choco Stout".

This will be the image for Big Ol Cat Brewer's second product "Big ol Himmy Heffeweizen":

Trip to Boise 2008 - High Valley Cabin.

From Trip to Boise 2008 - High Valley Cabin

Everyone really bent over backwards for Becca and I while we were up there. We pretty much spent the entire time doing what we wanted and having everyone asking us if we were having a good time and if we what we wanted to do. It was pretty great. This extended to our trip up to the Cabin. Emma arranged for us to stay at her aunt's amazing bird watching sanctuary which did not have a name that I caught, but should have been called "The Nest". This place was amazing. built totally within a big round structure the bottom floor had two bedrooms, a nice big living room, a bathroom (a real running water type of bathroom...not a hole in the ground type that would have made becca hitchike back to LA) and a little laundry Area. The upstairs is one huge lodge type kitchen / family area. It was so comfortable and awesome!

We had a great time, everyone that I show these pictures to in LA sort of can't believe it, but it's real I say...we even heard Elk while roasting "schmoos".

You can download these pics here or you can just watch the slide show:

Better late than never.

From Trip to Boise 2008 - Lucky Peak
Thanks to Jeff for reminding me that I have yet to post all the pics from the Idaho trip. Those of you in LA will already have been forced to sit through one or two slide shows on the subject, but in these complicated, often troubling times there are some family members who may not yet have been subjected to all of the these pictures, so these posts will be for you.

Starting off in Chronological order, we have the pics we took up at Lucky Peak. Unfortunately, the boat did not survive the trip and we ended up ruining the party time of a group of Boise State co-eds who's dock we took over with our inflatable tow toys and squirt guns. Now these docks are public mind, but some Idaho douche slides his massive speed boat up to the dock that we were all hanging out on and says "what's going on here?" Not "How's it Going" or "Hey our stuff is on the shore, we're going to eat lunch, but we'll try to share this public resource..." nope, just 'what's going on here" (subtext...I got all these chicks in Bikini's so whats with you sqaures and your kids and your big fat guts ruining our times?) Anywho the old man handled it by speaking Idaho to the dood and they begrudgingly went about their business.

I didn't get any feed back about how you liked the last slide I'm going to assume that you LOVED it and give you another one. If anyone wants to download these pics they are available on my public Picasa album:

Boston Globe posts pics from the Summer Paralympics

Melissa Stockwell, right, of the United States, chats with coach Jimi Flowers during a U.S. team training session for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, at the National Aquatics Center, known as the Water Cube, in Beijing Friday Sept. 5, 2008. Stockwell is one of two U.S. veterans competing in Beijing who were injured in Iraq.

The Boston Globe has recently posted several fascinating pictures from the 2008 Paralympic games which were recently held between Sept. 6th and 17th in Bejing.

Say what you want about Michael Phelps' accomplishment, but that guy is a genetic anomaly. I've gotta give a tip of the cap to this guy:

Rudy Garcia Tolson of the U.S. swims during the men's 200m individual medley SM7 heat at the 2008 Paralympics in the National Aquatics Centre, also known as the Water Cube, in Beijing September 7, 2008.

I'm going to post a few of the most compelling images below, but you should really click over and read the captions. There are some amazing pictures and events that I wouldn't have even thought possible, like a sport which is essentially "soccer for the blind". Inspiring images in these dark times:

Get Your War On: Sarah Palin and the Rape Kits

This? This is pretty good. I'm really out of the will for good now. I know Becca's going to lvoe it. Maybe it will even inspire Emma to write another screed about Obama that will only make all my buddies even more deeply in lust with her. I told them that they'd have the Mode to deal with, but Idaho's so far away and it just doesn't seem real. That is until you hear the distant thump of a Bell Jet Ranger bearing down on your Civic one lonely night on a deserted stretch of the 118 Freeway.

Jenny McCarthy enduces cringes...

Giant Bomb posted this video and said of it:

" this concept would be way less cringe-inducing if it chopped up more quotes and clips from the actual game. Actually, if RA3 has multiple characters saying "sounds kind of kinky" in the exact same way, maybe it's going to end up being the greatest-slash-worst-slash-greatest-again video game ever made."

And I have to say I agree...but still, Ivana Miličević is one tall glass of water, so here you go, have a good weekend:

Atari Demakes help this blog get back on the rails.

The last few days have been really trying for regular BGNR readers. When I wasn't alienating my red neck readers in the deep south by posting a bunch of Liberal Media propaganda pictures, I was alienating the other half of my readers (feminist art activists) by posting pictures of lolly pop munching Megan Fox's wet boobs.

Now if my feedburner site stats are anything to go by, my regular readers don't have a problem with boobs, but based on the page views it seems like they prefer Video Game Sweater Meat over the real thing. So I apologize, I'll get it together.

Towards those ends I have a nice meaty video game related post. It's a little light on the lady lumps, but it will appeal to my core audience of video game geeks and embarrassed relatives.

The Minus World's resident photoshopper B-Miggs has posted some amazing covers he mocked up imagining what modern games would look like on the Atari 2600, I've taken the liberty of swipping these and posting them below, because I know my readers don't like a bunch of useless interweb clicking. Enjoy:

One of the commenters on B-Miggs' post put up a link to a great video that I hadn't seen before. It's basically a Grand Theft Auto Intellivision Demake. And it's brilliant. Hopefully the Portal Demake that Schulemeister told me about will turn out this sweet:

More political bullshit that'll kep me out of Dad's will...

Another politically tinged post? Well I have to balance out yesterdays blatant attempt at driving traffic to my blog somehow. So I saw saw this picture over at Animal New York, a site I usually read for it's coverage of bad photoshop and subversive advertising:

The photographer, Jill Greenberg has taken several great shots for magazines and advertisements.

I tried to look this picture up on her website, so I could get a little higher resolution pic to post, but it has been removed due to legal action being taken against her by the The Atlantic magazine. Greenberg had taken several allegedly intentionally bad pictures of John Mccain for an Atlantic covershoot only to then post photoshopped outtakes from the session that showed a bloody jowled John McCain with a caption describing him as a "Warmonger".

These images have been removed from her website, but I was able to google a copy, which you can see below:

She probably would have gotten away with this if she had just stuck ceiling cat in the background.

Update:I was able to track down some higher rez images of the pics that Greenberg took and then photohshoped for her website (source Animal NY:

Jon Stewart on Palin's anti-choice stance

I don't get very political on this blog. Nothing like the genius rhetoric over on my Sister in Law's Blog, but I do have opinions. I also try not to get too amped up over the Daily Show. I love the Daily Show...but I get nervous about any media that is so obviously biased one way or the other...I mean, I agree with the Daily Show most of the time, but that doesn't mean I have to accept it wholesale at face value 100% of the time.

Still, I just got done watching the Sept. 4th Episode and good old Jon Stewart got in one of the zingers that makes you wish he'd moderate a presidential debate. Speaking with Newt Gingrich, Stewart had this to say in regard the the tenn pregnancy of Senator Palin's daughter:

STEWART: They have said, "this is Bristol's decision and we should honor that." I have a daughter. The thing that...the reason I think this is fair game is, Sarah Palin is one record as saying she would veto abortions for women even in the event of being raped. So what she is in essence saying, "respect my family's ability to make this decision, and elect me so that I can keep your family from having the same options."

Fuck, I mean couldn't really put it any better than that.

2nd Amendment upholding Obama (and unfortunatly armed McCain) appear in latest Saint's Row 2 Video

I've gotta hand it to the marketing department at THQ, they're certainly covering all the angles:

Death Race. The first game to corrupt America's youth and corrode our great society.

So my buddy from the college days has a pretty great weekly video podcast called the Totally Rad Show. The show has made him a fairly internet famous, even allowing him to rub elbows with some of my heroes from the world of games industry journalism.

At any rate, I was on the phone today with my brother who was also a friend of Jeff's back in the old days. brother and I were talking about a recent episode of Jeff's show in which they discussed the recent 'drivin and shootin' film Death Race.

In their review they were talking about how it would be such a great video game. Actually Jeff invited me to see this movie with him, and it's too bad that I didn't go or else I could have made the joke that I'd been saving for just such an event. Which is basically that I'd say "not another video game movie!"

But this is a pretty obscure reference, which I'm not even sure Jeff would have understood, despite the fact that he is about the only other person I know of who can keep up with my constant nerd references and inside jokes.

So OK...keep up. Back in the 70s Roger Corman, famed horror film producer put out a little flick called Death Race 2000. This is the same flick which I would assume inspired the recent Death Race I haven't seen the newer version, but it's a safe bet to assume it's basically just "asplody" than the original but still just as "fun".

But we're getting ahead of ourselves here. Back in the 70s a little company called exidy created an Arcade machine based on the film which was simply called Death Race. By today's standards the game is primitive, basically imagine Atari's Gran Trak 10 with little stick Zombies for you to drive over:

However, Exidy helped to add to the game's gruesome atmosphere of the game by housing it in an arcade cabinet covered with creepy images of zombies, hot rods, and skeletons:

Long before the days of Mortal Kombat and Night Trap helped bring about the ESRB or Grand Theft Auto poured us some "Hot Coffee", Death Race was appearing on 60 minutes. Exidy tried to subdue the Parental outcry by claiming that the stick figures weren't humans but rather "ghouls", but eventually the game would have to be recalled.

So now flash forward to 2008. Ryan sees a preview for the new Death Race and thinks to himself, "ha it's another damn video game movie! too bad no one would get that joke." But maybe now, maybe my dear to can make that joke when you start seeing the film's DVD release being advertised at midnight on Spike TV. And like me you can look around hoping in vain that someone else will "get it".

Until then enjoy this video from the you tubes of some hot AZN CHIK and a NECK Bearded Bro playing death race around the :59 sec mark:

New Silent Hill Homecoming screens make your tuesday a little more unsettling...

Kotaku did a pretty good job of hiding these pics from the kids who might want to download them and use them as wallpaper. But I dug around with Google Chrome and found a few. The pics below are from the PC version. The Xbox360 screens weren't as big (or filled with zombie nurses). Anyway click and enjoy:
